What We Mean by “Shaped by Enduring Truth”

Words like truth are often used loosely.

They are attached to opinions, preferences, and shifting cultural ideas. But at Old Fox Hollow, when we speak of truth, we are not speaking about what feels right in a given moment or what seems helpful for a season.

We are speaking about something unchanging.

We believe that truth is not created by us. It is revealed to us. And that truth has been given in the Word of God — the Bible — which is fully trustworthy and authoritative for all of life.

This is not one influence among many. It is the foundation beneath all others.

Scripture does not simply inform how we think about spiritual matters. It shapes how we understand reality itself — who God is, who we are, what the world is, and what it means to live faithfully within it.

Because of this, everything at Old Fox Hollow is shaped, directly or indirectly, by that foundation.

Lifelong learning is not neutral formation. It is the training of the mind to recognize what is true and to grow in wisdom under God’s Word.

Hospitality is not merely a cultural practice of welcome. It is a reflection, however imperfect, of the grace we have received in Christ — undeserved, steady, and generous.

Reflection is not self-expression for its own sake. It is the practice of noticing life through the lens of Scripture, learning to see both ordinary and significant moments in light of God’s character and work.

To be shaped by enduring truth is to acknowledge that we are not the final authority on meaning.

We are interpreters, not inventors.

This brings both humility and clarity.

Humility, because we recognize our limits — our tendency toward error, distraction, and self-deception. And clarity, because we are not left to define truth on our own.

We are given it.

This truth is not abstract. It is personal.

It is revealed most fully in Jesus Christ, who is not only the messenger of truth, but truth itself. In Him, we see the character of God made visible — grace and truth together, perfectly held.

To be shaped by enduring truth is, therefore, to be shaped by Christ.

This shaping is not instant. It is not completed in a single decision or moment of understanding. It is the ongoing work of God in the life of His people, through His Word, by His Spirit.

It touches how we learn.
It touches how we speak.
It touches how we build homes.
It touches how we rest.
It touches how we write.

Nothing is outside its reach.

At Old Fox Hollow, we do not claim to live this perfectly. We do not claim completeness or arrival. What we are describing is not a finished life, but a direction — a way of orienting all things toward what is true.

There is much we are still learning.

But the foundation is not uncertain.

And because the foundation is not uncertain, we can build slowly, carefully, and without fear that everything will need to be rebuilt later.

Enduring truth does not change with time.

It steadies us within it.
